Eating on Campus

While there are many great places to eat in San Antonio, not every student has access to a car or can afford to eat outside their meal plan. Luckily, there is plenty to eat on campus. Trinity has two main dining halls: Mabee and the Commons, usually just called Coates because it is located inside the student center. Over the past year at Trinity, I have come to find that the key to eating at a dining hall, at Trinity or otherwise is to be creative. I started off my freshman year eating the same basic three meals: a sausage biscuit from Coates for breakfast, a quesadilla from Mabee for lunch, and pasta, usually with pesto or meat sauce for dinner. I quickly found that eating the same basic food everyday was a generally bad idea. One clear sign that my eating habits had become a little too habitual was that many of the Aramark employees knew what I wanted before I ordered it. Since then I have constantly been trying to come up with creative sandwiches or interesting salads.

Another thing that is good about eating on campus are the people who work there. One of my favorites is Philip, who works at the breakfast all day station. He is always talkative, asking about your day as he makes your omlette or scrambled eggs. Aramark employees are generally very friendly and enthusiastic, which is good considering the regular basis on which we interact with them.
